Peter's Mood on 3/27
I haven't logged any entries about Peter in weeks for two reasons:
1) The stresses of my workplace have sapped my will to write anything; and
2) Peter's mood in all of my classes lately has been pretty benign, and therefore not noteworthy or entertaining.
I did not realize, though, that the reason I had nothing to say about Peter's moods was because I hadn't been to his Beginner-level class in awhile. I've been taking his Advanced Beginner class consistently for some weeks now. Peter teaches Advanced Beginners exclusively during the week. On Saturdays and Sundays, he offers both Beginner and Advanced Beginner classes, one right after the other, at Broadway Dance Center. The Advanced Beginner class is pretty challenging for me, but I take it because it is offered at the times I find most convenient for my schedule.
This Sunday, however, I took the first class, at 12:30, for Beginners. And there I witnessed the Peter that inspires the exasperation of so many of his students -- splendidly scathing. I'm normally unflappable in the face of his nastiness, but this day I even found myself slumping in the corner dejectedly, muttering "Jesus Christ!" under my breath, which actually elicited laughter from some of my classmates. You see, in Peter's eyes, while the Advanced Beginners have (though barely) enough redeeming qualities to merit some nurturing, the Beginners are definitely completely worthless. The Beginners can't do anything right, and really should just go home and forget all about ballet. After every exercise, he tells us how ridiculous and incompetent we are, and he imitates our movements in the most unflattering manner possible. He finds it necessary to stop us three or four times in the middle of a combination and start over, because the way we were doing it was just so very wrong.
So I must make sure to take the Beginner class every Sunday, because it's really quite entertaining. I wonder when Peter will just look straight at me and spit, "Get out of my class and go home, you GIGANTIC BOOB!"
